Late night mini portrait session.

"How do you think you look right now?" he asked me as I was washing the dishes.

"Normal?" I guessed as I wondered whether or not this was a trick question.

It was 10pm at night, I had just made myself a quick cup of coffee in hopes to stay up a little bit later since there have been quite a few early mornings lately.

He wanted to make sure I liked the way I looked, because he wanted to photograph me. It was another interesting process. I'm usually pretty hesitant about being photographed on instant film by him because I always feel like a boring subject.

Tonight's mini study was for him to find a way to connect with his subject, introduce a bit of motion into the image, and vary the composition in the frame. Also, to get away from his seemingly favorite habit of side-lighting me to the point where half my face is in shadow, which I quickly found to be unflattering for me.

Perhaps the most important part of the portrait taking process... connection with the subject - how you're going to photograph someone who believes being captured on instant film is a waste.

Shark Fin Cove in Davenport Beaches

While Tyler was driving, I frantically searched "Shark Fin Cove" into Google Maps, but no actual location popped up, only a not-very-useful "Highway 1, Davenport, CA" address.

It was coming up any minute and turning around on a one lane highway was too stressful to think about.

I googled "Shark Fin Cove" and looked for any indication of a location on a map and then proceeded to try to match the edges of the coast to the app. It was like studying puzzle pieces.

It looked like it was coming up soon. One minute later, I told him "It should be any parking area that comes up RIGHT after Bonny Doon road."

We literally just had a few minutes of light left. It didn't help that I wasn't wearing appropriate footwear.

(I'm never wearing the right shoes for these things.)

 


Also, as a final note, here's how to find Shark Fin Cove, since it wasn't easy finding exact directions.



Basically, turn left and park in the lot that comes RIGHT AFTER BONNY DOON ROAD when traveling north on Highway 1.

Polaroid 195 | Mallory

Decided to take the 195 out on one of Tyler and Mallory's quick shoot together for her fashion blog - readytwowear.com

This used to be one of our favorite locations for a quick portrait and a great view, but unfortunately the cops have started patrolling the area because it's technically trespassing, though there's quite an obvious trail.

I Got a Polaroid 195!

Jumped the gun there a little bit with my last blog post showing the positive and negative FP100C frames, but I recently got a Polaroid 195! I waited on posting photos from it since when I first got it, the camera body was somehow messed up and didn't focus accurately. I sent it over to landcameras.com and Cory fixed it up for me :)

Just a few photos from it... I will definitely be getting a close up kit for it eventually.

Sometimes I like the positive print much better than the bleached negative.
