BAST FAMILY | ONE DAY

I spent the entire day and night with the Bast family and documented their day. No staging, no direction. Frances, Chris, and Kaya invited me into their home and shared their personal lives with me. It was beautiful.

One. Candid.

My favorite shot of the night from my brother's birthday party.
They were getting ready to take a group photo.

These are my favorite moments - the ones you don't expect to be captured.

Yosemite

Oh my lordy Yosemite. I've always wanted to go. In every single outdoor photography magazine I've thumbed through, there is always a new article about Yosemite. Luckily, for my birthday, my friends and I planned a 3 night stay at Yosemite Lodge at the Falls. Each day, we went out to take pictures, walk around, hang out a bit, and then go back out to shoot long exposures of the sky or try to catch the moon rise above the horizon. It was really cold, so a lot of the attractions / tours were closed for the season, but it was nice that there wasn't a lot of people there.

We brought plenty of cameras along for the ride. Here are some from my D700.

Medium Format Portraits with the Mamiya RB67

Lately I've been wanting a shoot a lot more with film. Specifically, I want to shoot more portraits with my Mamiya RB67. I am in love with the look it has. I've already ordered myself some more film, a prism finder, and a 180mm lens for the RB67. Can't wait to shoot more with it. If only developing and scanning didn't cost so much! :\

Point Lobos | Fujifilm Instax 210

Beautiful Point Lobos coastal waves as captured by the Fujifilm Instax 210.

I picked up this nifty instant camera because I loved instant film, but using the Polaroid SX-70 with Impossible Project film was too expensive ($25 for 8 frames) for all the unfavorable quirks it had. So for just $65 for the camera and 20 frames for $16.99, I've been really happy with the images it gives me. I also don't have to shield it from light immediately after ejecting from the camera or wait half an hour as I have to with Impossible film.

One frame: Long Exposure Landscape

I just came back from my birthday trip to Yosemite yesterday afternoon, and immediately that night we went off to Pacific Grove coast to shoot some more long exposure landscapes. From the hour or so that we were there, I got one shot that I liked most. I didn't feel that any of my landscape exposures were all that exciting, so I decided to capture the spirit of the night - a group of three that liked going out and taking pictures of awesome places, while playing on their phone waiting for that long exposure.

Of the night, this is the one image I decided to keep.
